Yes, there are more than a handful of idiots out there who think they're immune...to diseases AND to emergency declarations. That why I mention the infection rate "next to zero", because _somebody_ is gonna screw it up, either intentionally or from an incredible amount of stupidity.

@Christa Simon I am not defending Trump. But if I were a religious person it would occur to me that a higher being may be involved. How did he even get in office. This may be our "flood". Anything trump did would have been reviled because he is universally regarded as a character in entertainment. @hill climber Trump could have brought the pandemic to an end back in April if he wanted to, But he couldn't make the tough call. His entire life, he had either daddy or a team of lawyers to clean up his messes. But a virus doesn't respond to legal threats. A virus doesn't care about being called bad names in tweets. This was possibly the first "Come to Jesus" moment Trump has ever faced in his life...and he failed. If he had made the tough call to shut down and stay at home for just 3 weeks - plan ahead with a call to the governors. Set a time - a 3 week period - when everyone except emergency services and some delivery services (not everyone has 3 weeks of groceries at home) actually stays home, the virus would have nowhere to spread to. Households that don't have the virus would continue to not have the virus 3 weeks later. In households that do have it, the virus would run it's course. The people who get very sick, they go to the hospital and are treated in isolation. Done. Three weeks. If he had the guts to do that, and the infection rate dropped to next to zero, he would have coasted into a second term as president and not lost the Senate. He would have been the shining beacon to the rest of the world, _this_ is how you stop a pandemic. But that's not what happened. And there was no coup. No one made Trump say in April it'll go away by itself, and "it's contained, we have it completely contained", or his appointed Surgeon-General telling people to STOP buying masks. Both he and right-wing media calling it a hoax. Republican politicians hosting anti-mask rallies. There was no coup, no conspiracy against him. Trump and his own allies did this. It's unfortunate that it cost 400,000 American lives to finally see how incompetent Trump and like-minded Republican politicians are. You're right that no one planned the virus. But maybe Trump shouldn't have thrown out the pandemic response playbook that Obama gave him. Or maybe shouldn't have disbanded the Directorate for Global Health Security in 2018. Or eliminated the Pandemic Response Team. ANY of those could have given Trump better advice than "bury your head in the sand and say it'll all go away by itself". But stay safe. AND stay curious. That's a very good trait to have. Maybe not so much the paranoia.

@Christa Simon Im generally paranoid, so the pandemic thing makes me curious at least. If it was a coup it was intended to get rid of trump, the only thing the population of the world ever allied on, and if that is the case it worked. I dont think anyone(planned) the virus but it handed the world the oportunity to dump trump. If true I hope the cooperation continues and all these didnt die for nothing

@Ex negativo "politicians using the pandemic to gain and establish power" ...like what? The "power" to ask people to wear masks in public to reduce the spread of the disease? The "power" to ask people to stand 6 feet apart when in a line at the grocery store? Those evil politicians - trying to save people's lives. How DARE they! Where will it end?!
