The solution might be to have stations where you swap out the battery hydraulically. Pull into the station and drop your discharged battery and put in an already fully charged battery and you are on your way. Batteries would all have to be the same size and shape.

Maybe I'm just an edge case. I can't afford a brand new EV. In fact I don't want to spend 20K on a used EV. I realized however that almost all of my driving was within a thirty mile radius of our apartment, in fact it was usually within fifteen. Our apartment has our parking space on the side of the apartment and I'm running a heavy 110V extension cable to my granny charger to charge up the car. I find that my cars like most cars spend at least 90% of their time sitting idle and now we work from home. I bought a second hand 2013 Nissan Leaf with about 80% left on the battery for $5,600 and this car is our Seattle town car. Although it's range is somewhat truncated it's more than enough to cover almost all of our driving. We kept the 2003 Honda Element for longer trips but they seem to be few and far between. I love driving the Leaf because it's quiet, smooth and ridiculously reliable. And it comes with a fully charged battery whenever I need to get groceries or run my wife to her office or take the dog to the vet. I know that a lot of people get hung up on range but most people do tiny mileage for virtually all their trips. If the Honda Element failed I'd get rid of it and just rent an ICE for the rare long trip. I reckon the Leaf is saving us about $120 a month so if I do need an ICE to go on those trips the Leaf has paid for it. Like I said, edge case.

Electric will not become useful until they figure out that the battery needs to be REMOVEABLE. So you can replace the discharged battery with a new charged battery. And that you can do so at home or at a battery replacement center. once that becomes available cars can travel hundreds or even thousands of miles.... just saying this Tesla......are you listening?????
